Garage Decluttering

Full garage clear-out

Full garage clear-outs: everything you no longer want loaded and removed in one visit, recycled where possible, garage swept. Typical UK costs.

In short: A full garage clear-out removes everything you no longer want from a garage in one visit, from boxes and old furniture to tools, bikes and garden waste, leaving it empty and swept. It suits people moving house, preparing a garage conversion or simply reclaiming the space. In the UK it typically costs £150 to £350 for a moderately full single garage and £350 to £750 for a packed double.

Full garage clear-out

A full clear-out is the right choice when most or all of the contents are going. A team arrives with a suitable vehicle, carries everything out, loads it and takes it away, then sweeps the floor so the garage is empty and ready for whatever comes next. The price is based mainly on the volume and weight of what is removed, plus any items that need separate handling such as electricals, paint or mattresses.

Even on a full clear-out, items are not all sent to one place. Furniture and working goods in good condition are set aside for reuse, metal, wood, cardboard and garden waste are separated for recycling, and only what is left goes for general disposal through licensed sites. Before anything goes, we check with you for documents, photos and anything that might have value.

What is included

  • Carrying out and loading all agreed items
  • Dismantling large furniture, shelving and old workbenches where needed
  • Separating items for reuse, recycling and disposal
  • Setting aside paperwork, photographs and possible valuables for you to check
  • Transport and disposal through licensed waste sites
  • A waste transfer note for the waste removed
  • Sweeping out the garage once it is empty

Who it is for

  • Moving house and leaving the garage empty for the buyer
  • Preparing a garage for conversion into a room
  • Clearing a garage before a new door, roof or floor is fitted
  • Landlords clearing between tenancies

How much does it cost?

As a guide, a full clear-out of a moderately full single garage usually costs £150 to £350, a packed single £250 to £500 and a packed double £350 to £750. Heavy waste, hazardous items and difficult access cost more. See our full cost guide.

How it works

How full garage clear-out works, step by step
  1. Price from photos

Send two or three photos from the doorway and a note of anything heavy or unusual, and you get a fixed price for the whole job.

  2. Confirm what stays

On arrival we agree what, if anything, is staying, and you point out items to be set aside.

  3. Clear and load

The team carries everything out, separating reuse, recycling and general waste as it is loaded.

  4. Sweep and hand back

The garage is swept out and checked with you before we leave.

Full garage clear-out: FAQs

How is a garage clear-out priced?

Mostly by how much is being removed, measured roughly by van loads or cubic yards, and by weight for heavy items such as rubble, metal and gym equipment. Items needing separate disposal, such as fridges, mattresses, tyres and paint, can add a charge. Labour, access and distance to the vehicle also play a part. Photos from the doorway are usually enough for a fixed price.

Can you clear a garage with an asbestos roof?

We can clear the contents, which is not the same as dealing with the roof. Many older prefabricated garages have asbestos cement roofs or panels, which are low risk if left alone in good condition. We avoid damaging them while working. If you want the roof itself removed, that needs a contractor who handles asbestos, and the waste must go to a suitable hazardous waste site.

What happens to my old furniture?

Furniture in good condition goes to reuse charities or furniture projects where they will accept it. Many charities cannot take upholstered items such as sofas and armchairs without the original fire safety label. Damaged furniture is broken down so wood and metal can be recycled. Some upholstered seating has to be disposed of by incineration rather than landfill under current waste rules.

Can you take everything in one trip?

For most single garages, yes. Very full double garages, or garages with a lot of heavy material, can need two loads. That is factored into the fixed price, so you are not charged extra on the day for a second trip unless you add items that were not in the photos or the original description.
